Introduction – Amsterdam:

Amsterdam is the largest city as well the capital of Netherlands and is located in the province of North Holland. According to the census of 1st January 2008 the population of Amsterdam including the suburbs was of 1.36 million and has the sixth largest metropolitan area in Europe, having a population of 6.7 million.

During the Dutch Golden Age Amsterdam had become one of the important ports of the world resulting in the development of trade through the sea route. Amsterdam is also the cultural and financial capital of Netherlands. Many large Dutch Institutions have their head quarters in Amsterdam along with Philips and ING.

Attraction Places:
When talking about the attraction places in Amsterdam, Van Gogh Museum is worth mentioning. This museum features the work of a very famous Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh and the work existing at the same time. It has the largest collect of Van Gogh’s painting in the world and other historical painting of 19th Century.

Rijksmuseum Amsterdam is the Dutch National Museum located at Museumplein. Is it dedicated to history, arts and crafts and has a large collection of paintings mainly from the Dutch Golden Age and a huge collection of Asian Art.

Climate:
The climate of Amsterdam is oceanic climate which is strongly influenced by the North Sea located in the west with dominant north-western winds. The summers are moderate but rarely hot and the average temperature in august is measured as 21.8 °C, and in winters the temperature falls at about -12°C easily while nights sometimes falls below -5°C. Amsterdam gets the average rainfall of 780 mm and is mostly light rain and most of the time forming cloudy or damp days

Festivals:
In the year 2008, there were about 140 festivals and events organized in Amsterdam. The Famous festivals and events that were organized include, Queen’s Day, The Holland Festival for the performing Arts, The Uitmarkt , The Cannabis Cup and many more! Each year thousands of people come to Amsterdam to celebrate these occasions which resulted in the over crowdedness! But it’s surely the world’s beautiful and the cleanest place to visit.
