Introduction – Denver:
Denver was founded in the year 1858 as a mining town during the Gold Rush in the territory of Western Kansas. Denver is the capital and the most populous city of Colorado (United States). Denver is located at the South Platte River Valley on the high Plains east of the Front Range of Rocky Mountains. The down town of Denver is located at east of the Confluence of Cherry Creek with South Platte River that is approximately 21 km east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
Places of Interest:
Denver has more than 200 parks from small mini parks all over the city to Giant parks. City Park is the giant park of the Denver and comprises of an area of 330 acres and is located in east-central Denver. This Park includes, Denver Museum of Nature and science Ferril and Duck lakes, boat house and a Denver house. It is the largest and the most notable park in Denver.
Another worth mentioning tourist attraction is Red Rocks Park. It is a mountain park in Jefferson County and is owned and maintained by the city Denver. It is well known for its huge sandstone outcrops. Most of these rock formations inside the park have various names for e.g. Mushroom Shaped Seat of Pluto, Seven Ladders etc. and the most visited rocks include Ship Rock, Stage Rock and Creation Rock.
Geography:
Denver is situated at the center of the Front Range Urban Corridor that is between the High Plains to the east and Rocky Mountains to the West. According to the Census Bureau, city comprises the area of 401.3 Kilometer Square of which only 1.03% is water. The City and County of Denver is being surrounded by only three other counties that are, Adams County, Jefferson county and the Arapahoe County.
Climate:
Denver comprises of semi-arid, continental climate with four seasons. As the Denver is located on the Great Plains therefore the weather of the city and surrounding areas are heavily influenced by the Rock Mountains that are located in the west. The landscape of this city is mainly made up from prairie and desert lands. The average temperature of Denver is 10.1 °C and the yearly rainfall is about 402mm and the average snow fall averages about 155cm and generally occurs in October. The average annual sunshine is about 69% of the daylight hours.
