Introduction – Dublin:
Dublin, officially known in Irish as Baile Átha Cliath is the largest city and capital of Ireland as well! The name Dublin originated from the Irish “Dubh Linn” which means Black Pool and is located close to Ireland’s east coast, at the centre of the Dublin region and at the mouth of River Liffey which was originally founded as the settlement of the Vikings. Afterwards it evolved into the Kingdom of Dublin and became the primary city of the island.
Dublin is ranked as 23rd in the Global Financial Centers Index and is one of the fastest growing cities with respect to population as compared to any other European Capital city and is also enlisted as a Global City with Alpha ranking which places Dublin in the top 25 cities in the world.
Places of Interest:
Dublin is filled with number of landmarks and historical sites which dates back 100 of years! One of the Oldest landmark in the history of Dublin is “Dublin Castle”. It was built by the orders of King John of England in 1204 and was completed in the year 1230. It was built for the defense of City, the administration and for the protection of the King’s treasure.
Another worth mentioning place is Phoenix Park which is located north of the River Liffey and about 2 – 4 km west of the city center. The park comprises of 16 km perimeter wall which encloses 1,750 acres, which makes it one of the largest walled park in Europe! It consist of a large areas of grass land and tree-lined avenues and is filled with a huge herd of Fallow Deer.
Climate:
Dublin has a great climate which comprises of mild winters and cool summers with a moderate rainfall. The average annual rainfall of Dublin is 732.7mm although the west of Ireland experiences much higher rainfall than Dublin. The average extreme temperature is 7.6°C, while the average extreme temperature is 18.9°C.
Culture:
The Dublin’s culture mainly comprises of Literature, Theater, Arts, Music, Opera, Drama, Entertainment and shopping. Dublin has a very famous literary history and has produced many literary figures through out history and is a home to many acclaimed Operatic, musical and drama company and has a very vibrant nightlife with number of Bars, Pubs and night clubs. This city is surely one of a kind and to be said as perfect in every sense!
