Introduction – Palm Spring

Palm Spring is a desert city located in Riverside County in California inside the Coachella Valley. Along with Desert this city also comprises of Mountainous regions. It is approximately 37 miles east of San Bernardino and 136 miles mf San Diego and 111 miles east of Los Angeles. According to the census of the year 2000 the population of Palm Spring was 42,807. Hiking, Horse riding, golf, swimming and tennis are the main forms of recreations in this area.

Sites of Interests:
Living desert Zoo and Garden, which was previously known as Living Desert Museum, is a public desert botanical garden and zoo located in Palm desert. Today it is the only American zoo and botanic garden together which is completely dedicated to the gardens of the world. It provides environmental awareness, wildlife rehabilitation, plant propagation and captive breeding of African and other Desert species.

Another place worth mentioning is The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway! It is the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world. Before its construction the only way to climb the mountain was to hike many hours from Idyllwild.

Climate:
Palm Spring is Located in the Coachella Valley, therefore it is sheltered by various Mountains like the Santa Rosa Mountains, San Bernardino Mountains, Little San Bernardino Mountains and San Jacinto Mountains.

Due to this geographical landscape the climate of Palm spring is hot and dry having 354 days of sunshine and only 132.8 mm of rainfall annually. Other than summer months, winter months are also warm. The coolest days that have been averaged until now are 21 to 23 degree Centigrade and the night’s temperature falling up to 6 to 8 degree Centigrade. Freezes are rarely seen but they are surely possible. That occurs on an average of 3 nights.

Architecture:
The architecture of this city is renowned for its mid–century design. It is based on the tradition of German Bauhaus and is imitated in the work of Albert Frey, the person who designed the City Hall, cable car station airport and Movie Colony Hotel.
